BETSY LAYNE – Betsy Layne remained in the loss column in its latest outing. The Bobcats dropped a Class 2A, District 8 game, falling to visiting East Ridge on Senior Night. East Ridge, a newcomer to Class 2A, District 8, pulled away to beat the Bobcats 50-28 in the late-season football matchup.

With the loss, Betsy Layne slipped to 0-9 overall and 0-4 in Class 2A, District 8.

East Ridge improved to 3-5 overall and 2-2 in the district with the win.

The Warriors rushed for 375 yards en route to the win.

Leading East Ridge on the ground, Brody Johnson rushed 14 times for 204 yards and two touchdowns.

Directly behind Johnson in the East Ridge rushing column, Trey Little took seven carries for 105 yards and two scores.

Another East Ridge running back, Leighton Miller, rushed 17 times for 72 yards and one touchdown in the win.

The Warriors also fared well through the air as quarterback Jacob Clark completed 5-of-9 passes for 71 yards, two touchdowns and one interception.

Little and Michael Conn hauled in one touchdown pass reception apiece for the Warriors.

Defensively, Little led East Ridge with a team-high 11 tackles.

Miller and Paul Grigsby delivered one interception apiece for the Warriors.

Betsy Layne, which had been held scoreless in three straight games, amassed 379 yards of total offense. The Bobcats picked up over 200 yards through the air in the setback.

Pacing Betsy Layne offensively, quarterback Kyle Watkins completed 11-of-21 passes for 239 yards, three touchdowns and two interceptions.

Watkins completed passes to four different receivers. Pacing the Bobcats in receiving, Morgan Tackett hauled in five receptions for 170 yards and two touchdowns.

On the ground, Watkins rushed 10 times for a team-high 78 yards and one touchdown.

Tackett, Quintin Adkins, Jordan Kendrick and Logan Layne also rushed for positive yardage in the district contest.

Another Betsy Layne receiver, John Hall, reeled in a six-yard touchdown pass reception.

Zach Hamilton was the catalyst for the Betsy Layne defense, finishing with a game-high 16 tackles.

Following Hamilton defensively, Hall finished with 12 tackles.

Dylan Newsome picked off one pass for the Bobcats in the setback.

Betsy Layne will host Class 2A, District 8 rival Prestonsburg for a regular-season finale on Friday. Oct. 23. Kickoff for the Betsy Layne-Prestonsburg football game is set for 7:30 p.m.
