RIO GRANDE, Ohio – Led by Molly Frank and Jonathan Sloas, the University of Pikeville men’s and women’s cross country teams both finished second at the inaugural RedStorm Classic, hosted by Rio Grande on Friday evening.
Frank finished eighth overall, posting a time of 22 minutes and 5.8 seconds to lead the Bear women, while Sloas was 13th in the men’s field with a time of 31.35.1.
The host RedStorm won the team championships in both divisions. Their Kari Lawrence won individually with a time of 20:24.3 and Rio’s Blake Freed was the first collegiate finisher on the men’s side with a showing of 26:58.3.
Other women’s finishers for UPIKE were Sabrina Elliott in 12th place (23:41.6), JoBeth Bingham in 15th (24:27), Miranda McPeek taking 16th (26:17.1) and Chandra Hunley finishing 17th with a time of 28:22.9. Shelby LeMaster of UPIKE rounded out the finishers, crossing the line in 29:23.5.
Chris Leadford was the next men’s finisher for the Bears with a showing of 33:02.3, followed by Brad Loader in 19th place (33:56.1), Leonard Burks in 20th (34:20.7), Aaron Williams finishing 22nd (34:57) and Jacob Mansfield crossing the line in 36:17.5.
