Allen Central, East Ridge advance in region tournament

ROBINSON CREEK – Allen Central and East Ridge won in the opening round of the 15th Region Volleyball Tournament at Shelby Valley on Monday. Both Allen Central and East Ridge advanced to the semifinals of the 15th Region Volleyball Tournament.

Longtime 15th Region powerhouse Allen Central, the champion out of the 58th District, pulled away to defeat 57th District runner-up Johnson Central 3-0, winning 25-7, 25-11, 25-7.

East Ridge, the runner-up out of the 59th District, shut out 60th District champion Phelps 3-0, prevailing 25-13, 25-22, 25-18.

At press time, Paintsville, Belfry, Pikeville and Betsy Layne were competing in the 15th Region Volleyball Tournament at press time on Tuesday night.

The semifinals of the 15th Region Volleyball Tournament are scheduled for 6 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday.

Winners from the semifinals will meet in the 15th Region championship match at 7 p.m. on Thursday.

Allen Central has claimed four consecutive 15th Region championships.
