ROBINSON CREEK – Allen Central pulled away to defeat East Ridge 3-0 in the semifinals of the 15th Region Volleyball Tournament at Shelby Valley on Wednesday.
With the win, 58th District champion Allen Central improved to 31-5 and advanced to the 15th Region championship match on Thursday night.
East Ridge, the runner-up in the 59th District, ended its season 28-8 with the loss.
Longtime Kentucky high school volleyball powerhouse Allen Central has captured four straight 15th Region championships.
The Rebels, under the direction of veteran head coach Larry Maynard beat East Ridge 25-20, 25-13, 25-8.
Following a competitive first game, Allen Central dominated in back-to-back games to notch the win.
Katie Kendrick posted a match-high 21 kills for the Rebels. Following Kendrick for Allen Central in the victory over East Ridge, Sarah Grindrod added 11 kills.
The Rebels moved on to the region title tilt after shutting out Johnson Central 3-0 in the first round of the 15th Region Volleyball Tournament.
Allen Central advanced to meet 58th District runner-up Betsy Layne in the 15th Region championship match.
In the nightcap of the 15th Region Volleyball Tournament on Wednesday, Betsy Layne blanked Paintsville 3-0.
