PIPPA PASSES – The Alice Lloyd College women’s basketball team dropped its season-opener to visiting Indiana University Southeast over the weekend. IU Southeast made the most of multiple runs, pulling away to defeat the Lady Eagles 70-46 at the Grady Nutt Athletic Center on Saturday.
Alice Lloyd struggled on the offensive end early in the game. The Lady Eagles found themselves limited in each half. IU Southeast managed to carry a commanding 33-13 lead into halftime.
Picking back up where it had left off after intermission, IU Southeast scored the first 10 points of the second half to extend its lead over Alice Lloyd.
Senior Megan Jones and Amber Shepherd, both of whom are Floyd County natives, paced Alice Lloyd with 10 points apiece. Jones is a Paintsville High School graduate. Shepherd graduated from Paintsville’s crosstown rival, Johnson Central.
Narrowly missing double figures and a double-double, Taylor Arthur netted nine points and pulled down a game-high 11 rebounds for the Lady Eagles in the loss.
Visiting IU Southeast excelled offensively and defensively throughout the season-opening matchup.
Annie Thomas paced offensive-heavy IU Southeast with a game-high 19 points.
