LEXINGTON – Prestonsburg’s season ended with a loss to host Lexington Christian in the opening round of the Class 2A Russell Athletic/KHSAA Commonwealth Gridiron Bowl. Lexington Christian pulled away to beat Prestonsburg 34-13 on Friday night.
With the loss, Prestonsburg, which entered the postseason as the third seed out of District 8, concluded its campaign 5-6.
Lexington Christian, the second seed out of District 7, improved to 7-4 and advanced to the second round of the Class 2A Russell Athletic/KHSAA Commonwealth Gridiron Bowl with the win.
Leading Lexington Christian to the win, quarterback Brayden Miller completed 14-of-20 passes for 193 yards, three touchdowns and one interception.
Pacing Lexington Christian in receiving, Ryan Stuckey hauled in nine pass receptions for 119 yards and one touchdown.
Caelan Lebryk and Kyle Paske added one touchdown catch apiece for the Eagles.
Dillon Wheatley led Lexington Christian’s ground attack, rushing 20 times for 140 yards and two touchdowns.
Defensively for Lexington Christian, Brett Wilkins posted 14 tackles, Wade Drake added 11 and Wheatley contributed 10.
Pacing Prestonsburg in the season-ending loss, quarterback Bailey Slone completed 15-of-30 passes for 202 yards, two touchdowns and one interception.
Wesley Hager led Prestonsburg in receiving, reeling in 10 receptions for 127 yards and one touchdown.
Drake Nunnery added a 41-yard scoring reception for the Blackcats in the loss, which included senior Dalton Frasure being sidelined. Prior to exiting the game with a hurt knee, Frasure rushed 16 times for 38 yards.
Paul Stanley led the Prestonsburg defensive effort with a team-high 12 tackles. Matt Smith registered eight tackles and Jordan Ray provided seven stops for the Blackcats.
Lexington Christian will visit Shelby Valley (9-2) for the second round of the Class 2A Russell Athletic/KHSAA Commonwealth Gridiron Bowl. Kickoff for the Lexington Christian-Shelby Valley game is set for 7:30 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 13.
