BEAVERCREEK, Ohio – The University of Pikeville men’s bowling team fell just short of reaching the finals at the Raider Classic on Sunday, instead settling for a third-place finish in the bracket round at Beaver-Vu Bowl.
Only the top four teams after qualifying advanced to the bracket round and UPIKE just made the cut in fourth place with a total pin fall of 8,848, which was 133 more than its next competition.
Qualifying involved five team games, followed by 20 games of Baker play.
The championship round semifinals were decided by four baker-style games that saw the Bears finish third with a score of 771 and Ohio State took fourth with 745 pins. Morehead State and Notre Dame College advanced to the finals with scores of 869 and 844, respectively.
Morehead State ended up winning the team championship by a score of 407-399 through two more Baker games.
During Saturday’s qualifying, UPIKE’s Zachary Fylling led the entire field with 1,114 pins through five games. Derek Perkins also finished in the top 10, tallying a score of 1,065 to take seventh.
