Stambaugh signs with UPIKE women’s golf team

Jenkins High School senior Alexis Stambaugh has signed with the University of Pikeville women’s golf program.


PIKEVILLE – Jenkins High School student-athlete Alexis Stambaugh signed a scholarship agreement to join the University of Pikeville women’s golf team for the 2016-17 season, UPIKE head coach Nelson Scott announced on Tuesday.

Stambaugh, the daughter of Paul and Lori Stambaugh of McRoberts, has played seven years for Jenkins High School. In that span she has won the All-A Region Tournament five times and qualified for the state tournament the past two years.

It’s been a busy prep career for Stambaugh who also plays basketball and softball for Jenkins, leading the state in blocked shots last season with 90. In softball, she was named the best defensive player on the team the past two seasons and made it on the all-district and all-region teams.

Stambaugh is a member of the Interact Club, Spirit Club, yearbook and newspaper staff and has worked as a mentor through the 21st Century after-school program.
