PRESTONSBURG – Prestonsburg High School senior girls’ soccer player Jackie Kidd signed with the University of Pikeville last week.
Kidd was named First Team All-15th Region four times. As a senior captain, Kidd scored a game-high 29 goals for the Prestonsburg girls’ soccer team. Kidd also dished out nine assists as a senior, helping to lead the Prestonsburg team to its first-ever 15th Region All “A” Classic championship, an appearance in the All “A” state tournament, a district championship and a region runner-up finish. Kidd concluded her career as the second all-time leading goal scorer in school history with 89 goals. She is also the all-time leader in assists with 42.
“Jackie has been a great player for us the last four years and we are going to miss her next year,” Prestonsburg Coach Paul Burchett said. “As a coach, there’s nothing more exciting than to see one of your players be able to continue her career at the college level and further her education through soccer. Jackie has always wanted to play at the next level and has worked hard to put herself in position to have this opportunity. To me, this is what is great about sports – being able to set goals, work hard, and achieve those goals. This is the second player from our program in the last year that has a received a scholarship to play college soccer. I hope to see this continue over the next several years. Our program and school are really excited for Jackie and look forward to following her collegiate career. The University of Pikeville is not only getting a great player, but a great student and above all, a great person.”
