BUCKLEYS CREEK – Betsy Layne fell to host Pike County Central in a season-opener on Tuesday night. Pike County Central pulled away to beat the visiting Bobcats 57-47.

Betsy Layne shot 40 percent from the field, finishing 16-of-40. The Bobcats attempted only four 3-point field goals, connecting on one of the shots taken from beyond the arc. Struggling at the charity stripe throughout the non-district boys’ basketball matchup, Betsy Layne finished 12-of-32 (37.5 percent) from the free throw line.

The Bobcats faced plenty of resistance from homestanding Pike County Central. Betsy Layne committed 21 turnovers as a result of the Hawks’ defensive pressure.

Zach Hamilton paced Betsy Layne with a double-double. Hamilton was the only Betsy Layne player to reach double figures in the scoring column, posting 21 points and pulling down 11 rebounds for the Bobcats.

Finishing one field goal short of reaching double figures in the Betsy Layne scoring column, Jakob Ariaz netted eight points. Following Ariaz offensively for the Bobcats, Morris Adkins and Grant Osborn scored seven points apiece.

Nathan Hall rounded out the Betsy Layne scoring, chipping in four points.

As a team, Betsy Layne finished with 28 rebounds, six assists, eight turnovers and four blocks.

The Betsy Layne and Pike County Central boys’ basketball teams aren’t scheduled to meet again this season.

Betsy Layne is scheduled to host Allen Central for an early-season 58th District boys’ basketball game on Friday night. Tip-off for the Betsy Layne-Allen Central boys’ basketball game is set for 7:30 p.m. at the Dome.
