BETSY LAYNE – Host Betsy Layne defeated Allen Central 55-28 in a 58th District girls’ basketball game at the Dome on Friday night.
With the win, Betsy Layne improved to 1-1 overall 1-0 and in the district.
Allen Central dropped to 0-2 overall and 0-1 in the district with the loss.
Betsy Layne shot 36.9 percent (24-of-65) from the field. The Ladycats won convincingly despite finishing 0-for-12 from 3-point range.
Determined Betsy Layne won handily after committing 24 turnovers.
Betsy Layne also overcame a 33.3 percent shooting effort from the free throw line. The Ladycats connected on 7-of-21 foul shots.
Dominating inside, Betsy Layne collected 43 total rebounds.
Emily Kidd paced Betsy Layne with a game-high 17 points and 11 rebounds.
Accompanying Kidd in double figures, Katie Tackett added 11 points for the Ladycats.
Narrowly missing double figures and a double-double, Megan Frazier delivered nine points and 10 rebounds for the Ladycats.
Summer Johnson and Kaitlin Kidd chipped in five points apiece for Betsy Layne in the victory.
Rounding out the Betsy Layne scoring, Destiny Compton and Paige Stumbo contributed four points apiece.
Kacie Poston paced Allen Central with a team-high 15 points. Poston was the only Allen Central player to reach double figures in the scoring column.
Hannah Combs and Katelin Pence scored five points apiece and Kylie Stephens tossed in three for the Lady Rebels in the loss.
Leading the Lady Rebels inside, Emily Johnson rounded up a team-high 10 points.
Allen Central faced multiple deficits throughout the early-season district matchup.
