HI HAT – Reigning 58th District champion South Floyd won its season-opener on Thursday, defeating visiting Sheldon Clark 86-68 in a 15th Region boys’ basketball matchup.
South Floyd shot a blistering 67.3 percent (37-of-55) from the field. The Raiders were 7-of-11 (63.6 percent) from 3-point range.
South Floyd finished 9-of-13 (69.2 percent) from the free throw line.
The Raiders, under the guidance of head coach Justin Holbrook limited Sheldon Clark throughout the non-district game.
Andrew Tackett registered a double-double, scoring 22 points and dishing out 12 assists. Tackett also pulled down seven rebounds and recorded five steals in the Raiders’ win.
Jacob Collins led the Raiders in scoring, netting a game-high 23 points.
Joining Tackett and Collins in double figures, Clifton Trammell tossed in 17 points for the Raiders.
Flirting with double figures in the scoring column, Blade Slone added nine points for South Floyd in the impressive win at Raider Arena.
Brady Conn contributed six points and seven rebounds in South Floyd’s victory.
Rounding out the South Floyd individual scoring, Hunter Johnson and Blake Johnson flipped in five points and four points, respectively.
Familiar 15th Region foes, South Floyd and Sheldon Clark aren’t scheduled to meet again this season.
