PIKEVILLE – The University of Pikeville’s Brandon Lopez is an NAIA Men’s Soccer Scholar-Athlete, officials from the national office announced on Friday.

In order to be nominated by an institution’s sports information director, a student-athlete must maintain a minimum grade-point average of 3.5 on a 4.0 scale and have achieved at least junior academic status.

Lopez is a junior from Smyrna, Tenn., who has appeared in 25 games for the Bears, scoring a goal on three shots while leading the defense.

The Daktronics-NAIA Scholar-Athlete program recognizes excellence in the classroom by eligible student-athletes that have attended two full years as a non-transfer or one full year as a transfer at their respective institutions.
