PIKEVILLE – In the first of three NAIA Bowling Coaches’ Top-10 Polls to be released this season, the University of Pikeville women are ranked second and the men are ninth, national office officials announced on Tuesday.
The UPIKE women, winners of four national titles, picked up 120 voting points in the poll to trail only Webber International (Fla.) which came in with 158 points. St. Francis rounded out the top three with 100 points.
UPIKE already has two tournament wins this season, starting off 2-0 with wins at the Green River Classic and Southern Kentucky Classic. Since then, it has finished second twice and third once as it heads to Las Vegas, Nev., for a pair of events next weekend.
On the men’s side of the poll, the Bears earned 40 points from the voting coaches to tie with Concordia for ninth. Webber International leads the men’s rankings with 120 points, followed by Calumet with 119 and Robert Morris (Ill.) with 112 points.
The UPIKE men, which will also be in Vegas, won the Green River Classic in the season opener and have since had their best finish in the most recent outing, taking third place out of 21 teams in the Raider Classic on Nov. 15.
