ASHLAND – Sophomore Lauren Wright broke the Piarist School girls’ basketball scoring record with a game-high 41 points during the Lady Knights’ game at Rose Hill Christian on Tuesday. Host Rose Hill managed to defeat the Lady Knights 61-52 in the regular-season matchup.
In addition to her school-record 41 points, Wright grabbed 15 rebounds and recorded five blocks for the Lady Knights.
With the loss, the Piarist School dropped to 0-6.
Rose Hill Christian improved to 3-2 with the win.
The Lady Royals shot 38.6 percent (27-of-70) from the field in their latest home game. Rose Hill Christian finished 1-of-6 from 3-point range.
The Lady Royals hot 33.3 percent (4-of-12) from the free throw line.
Leading Rose Hill to the win, Kendra Steele scored a team-high 27 points. Rose Hill featured a pair of scorers in double figures as Makenlee Sparks added 16 points.
Sparks registered a double-double, pulling down a team-high 12 rebounds for the Lady Royals.
Wright was the only Piarist School player to reach double figures in the scoring column. Ashley Bentley scored seven points and Katie Howard chipped in four points for the Lady Knights.
Bentley and Hailee Culbertson added nine rebounds apiece for the Piarist School in the setback.
Piarist School managed to outrebound Rose Hill Christian 40-39 in the short effort.
The Piarist School and Rose Hill Christian girls’ basketball teams aren’t scheduled to meet again this season.
