HI HAT – South Floyd junior center/forward Taylor Berger has been named the Hutch Chevrolet Buick GMC Sponsored Player of the Week. Berger is the first female to earn the award.
The South Floyd junior center/forward scored 23 points and grabbed 41 rebounds in a two-game stretch consisting of games versus former 14th Region champion Pike County Central and former 15th Region champ Pike County Central.
In a 58-56 win over Pike County Central, Berger pulled down a game-high 23 rebounds.
Under the direction of head coach Justin Triplett, South Floyd has won three of its first four games in the 2015-16 season.
South Floyd outlasted host Perry County Central 65-62 in a season-opener on Monday, Nov. 30.
Remaining in the win column later in the opening week of the 2015-16 season, visiting South Floyd edged 15th Region rival Pike County Central 58-56 on Friday, Dec. 4.
Lawrence County dealt South Floyd its first loss over the weekend, defeating the Lady Raiders 57-50 in a home opener for the South Floyd girls’ basketball program.
But it didn’t take the Lady Raiders long to return to the win column. South Floyd rolled past visiting Cordia 60-4 on Wednesday night. With the win over Cordia, South Floyd improved to 3-1.
Berger and her South Floyd teammates will host the Allen Central Lady Raiders in a 58th District girls’ basketball game on Friday night. Tip-off for the South Floyd-Allen Central girls’ basketball game is set for 7:30 p.m. in Raider Arena.
