HI HAT – Visiting Allen Central managed to upend South Floyd 72-67 in a 58th District boys’ basketball game at Raider Arena on Friday night.
Longtime Floyd County rivals, Allen Central and South Floyd met in a rematch of last season’s 58th District championship game.
With the win, Allen Central improved to 2-2 overall and 2-0 in the 58th District.
South Floyd slipped to 1-3 overall and 0-1 in the district with the loss.
Excelling offensively, Allen Central shot 64.3 percent from the beyond the arc, connecting on 9-of-14 3-point field goal attempts. The Rebels shot 56.8 percent (21-of-37) from the field.
Allen Central went to the foul line early and often during the district game. The Rebels finished 21-of-42 (50 percent) from the free throw stripe.
Three Allen Central players reached double figures in the scoring column. Seth Hall, back from an injury he suffered during the offseason, paced Allen Central with 18 points. Ethan Smith scored 17 points and Cameron Blevins added 16 points for the Rebels, who led at the conclusion of each quarter.
Narrowly missing double figures, Brett Sammons netted nine point for Allen Central in the district win.
Cameron Nelson scored five points, Dylan Caudill chipped in four points and Bailey Wright added three points for the Rebels.
Caudill led Allen Central inside, securing a game-high 11 rebounds.
Andrew Tackett led South Floyd with 18 points. Jacob Colins scored 16 points, Clifton Trammell tossed in 15 points and Brady Conn added 10 points as four different South Floyd players reached double figures in the scoring column.
Hunter Johnson and Blade Slone rounded out the South Floyd scoring, finishing with five points and three points, respectively.
The South Floyd Lady Raiders rolled past the Allen Central Lady Rebels 73-25 in a 58th District girls’ basketball game.
Allen Central is scheduled to host South Floyd at J.E. Campbell Arena in Eastern on Jan. 22, 2016.
