PAINTSVILLE – Allen Central suffered its second straight loss on the road on Monday night, falling to host Paintsville in a 15th Region boys’ basketball matchup. Paintsville beat the Rebels 75-67, notching a win in its season-opener.
With the loss, Allen Central slipped to 2-2.
Paintsville shot 42.6 percent (23-of-54) from the field. The Tigers finished 8-for-30 (26.7 percent) from 3-point range.
Paintsville shot 59.4 percent (19-of-32) from the free throw line.
Five Paintsville players reached double figures in the scoring column. Leading Paintsville to the win, Darren Morris scored a team-high 15 points.
Following Morris offensively for the Tigers, Roger Maynard and Luke Trimble tossed in 14 points apiece.
Brothers James and Chris Allen reached double figures as well, finishing with 11 points apiece.
Rounding out the Paintsville scoring, Tanner Smith and Richard Grace added eight and two points, respectively.
The Rebels owned a 40-23 advantage in the rebounding column, Allen Central, however, fell short in the end.
Allen Central shot 38.3 percent (18-of-47) from the field. The Rebels finished 3-of-12 (25 percent) from 3-point range.
Allen Central shot 63.4 percent (26-of-41) from the the free throw line.
The Rebels featured four scorers in double figures. Cameron Blevins scored 17 points, Seth Hall netted 16 points, Bailey Wright tossed in 14 points and Brett Sammons added 10 points for Allen Central in the setback.
Additional scorers for the Rebels were Dylan Caudill (three points), Cameron Nelson (three points), Ethan Smith (three points) and Sam Conley (one point).
The Allen Central and Paintsville boys’ basketball teams aren’t scheduled to meet again this season.
