Betsy Layne beats East Ridge for third straight win

LICK CREEK – Betsy Layne earned its third straight win on Tuesday, defeating host East Ridge 56-41 in a boys’ high school basketball game between familiar non-district foes.

With the win, Betsy Layne improved to 3-2.

East Ridge slipped to 3-3 with the loss.

Betsy Layne shot 51.4 percent (18-of-35) from the field. The Bobcats finished 5-of-11 (45.5 percent) from 3-point range.

Betsy Layne shot 56.3 percent (9-of-16) from the free throw line.

Controlling the glass, Betsy Layne outrebounded East Ridge 34-23.

Jakob Ariaz led the Betsy Layne’s offensive effort, scoring a game-high 18 points for the Bobcats.

Registering a double-double, Zach Hamilton scored 13 points and grabbed a game-high 19 rebounds for the Bobcats.

Joining Ariaz and Hamilton in double figures, Kyle Watkins tossed in 12 points.

Narrowly missing double figures, Grant Osborn netted nine points for the Bobcats.

Rounding out the Betsy Layne scoring, Nathan Hall and Milton Mahan chipped in two points apiece.

Betsy Layne owned multiple leads before settling for the 15-point victory. The Bobcats overcame 12 turnovers en route to the win.

East Ridge shot 38.8 percent (19-of-49) from the field. The Warriors finished 1-for-10 form 3-point range.

East Ridge shot 40 percent (2-of-5) from the free throw line following a limited number of opportunities at the charity stripe.

Trey Little paced East Ridge with 16 points. Little was the only East Ridge player to reach double figures in the scoring column. Matt Miller scored eight points. Michael Conn contributed six points and Jacob Childers chipped in five points for the Warriors.

The Betsy Layne and East Ridge boys’ basketball teams aren’t scheduled to meet again this season.
