BETSY LAYNE – In a battle of former 15th Region girls’ basketball champions, Betsy Layne pulled away to beat visiting Sheldon Clark 61-44 at the Dome on Tuesday night.
With the win, Betsy Layne improved to 3-3.
Sheldon Clark slipped to 3-4 with the loss.
Betsy Layne shot 56.5 percent (26-of-46) from the field. The Ladycats fared even better beyond the arc, shooting 62.5 percent (5-of-8) from 34-point range.
Betsy Layne shot 66.7 percent (6-of-9) from the free throw line.
In all, nine different Betsy Layne players provided scoring in the win. Emily Kidd paced Betsy Layne with a team-high 17 points.
Accompanying Kidd in double figures, Jordan Adkins added 10 points for the Ladycats.
Katie Tackett tossed in eight points, Megan Frazier contributed seven points and Summer Johnson netted five points for Betsy Layne in the victory.
Other scorers for Betsy Layne in the winning effort were Destiny Compton (four points), Kaitlin Kidd (four points), Alex Sisco (four points) and Jenna Kidd (two points).
Struggling offensively, Sheldon Clark shot only 26.4 percent (14-of-53) from the field. The Lady Cardinals finished 2-of-17 from 3-point range.
Sheldon Clark shot 42.4 percent (14-of-33) from the free throw line.
Pacing Sheldon Clark, Hope Lafferty scored a game-high 22 points. Lafferty was the only Sheldon Clark player to reach double figures in the scoring column as the Lady Cardinals struggled to convert on the offensive end.
Other scorers for Sheldon Clark in the loss were Laken Newsome (seven points), Laken Stanley (four points), Madison Thompson (four points), Paige Maynard (three points) and Hannah Scott (one point).
The Betsy Layne and Sheldon Clark girls’ basketball teams aren’t scheduled to meet again this season.
