Frazier leads Lady Cats over Lawrence County

BETSY LAYNE – Megan Frazier posted a double-double to lead Betsy Layne past Lawrence County 54-49 in a 15th Region girls’ basketball matchup at the Dome on Thursday.

With the win, Betsy Layne improved to 4-3.

Lawrence County dropped to 3-5 with the loss.

Frazier paced Betsy Layne with 19 points and 12 rebounds, both of which were game-high totals.

Accompanying Frazier in double figures, Emily Kidd added 14 points for the Lady Cats.

Finishing one shot short of reaching double figures, Destiny Compton netted eight points for Betsy Layne in the impressive victory.

Betsy Layne overcame 22 turnovers to claim the win. The Lady Cats dished out 16 assists opposed to the nearly two dozen turnovers.

Betsy Layne, under the direction of head coach Randy Coleman, shot 43.8 percent (21-of-48) from the field. The Lady Cats won despite finishing 1-for-11 from 3-point range.

Betsy Layne shot 44 percent (11-of-25) from the free throw line in the non-district contest.

In all, eight different Betsy Layne players provided scoring in the winning effort. Other scorers for the Lady Cats were Jordan Adkins (five points), Kaitlin Kidd (four points), Summer Johnson (two points), Alex Sisco (one point) and Katie Tackett (one point).

Defensively, Betsy Layne recorded 13 steals and six blocks.

The Betsy Layne and Lawrence County girls’ basketball teams aren’t scheduled to meet again this season.
