Allen Central prevails in low-scoring tournament matchup

PRESTONSBURG – Allen Central defeated familiar 15th Region rival East Ridge 44-39 in the first round of the Hi-Tech Signs & Graphix Holiday Classic at Prestonsburg High School on Friday night.

With the win, Allen Central improved to 3-4.

East Ridge slipped to 3-4 with the loss.

A pair of Allen Central players reached double figures in the scoring column. Seth Hall, who has made a solid return to the court after suffering an injury during the offseason, paced Allen Central with a game-high 18 points.

Accompanying Hall in double figures for the Rebels, Cameron Blevins added 10 points.

Brett Samons scored five points, Dylan Caudill and Ethan Smith-Mills added four points apiece and Bailey Wright tossed in three points for the Rebels.

Allen Central led 9-7 at the first rest stop. East Ridge, however, battled back to lead 15-14 at halftime.

Not to be outdone, Allen Central outscored East Ridge 17-12 in the third quarter to move back out in front.

Dakota Miller paced East Ridge with 13 points. Miller was the only East Ridge player to reach double figures in the scoring column.

Allen Central and East Ridge met for the first time in the 2015-16 season. The Rebels and Warriors are scheduled to meet again on Jan. 5, 2016 in the first round of the 15th Region All “A” Classic at the East Kentucky Expo Center in downtown Pikeville.

Teams from the 14th, 15th and 16th regions comprised the field for this year’s Hi-Tech Signs & Graphix Holiday Classic, which ranked as one Eastern Kentucky’s top pre-Christmas boys’ high school basketball tournaments.

In other first round games in the Hi-Tech Signs & Graphix Holiday Classic it was June Buchanan 70, Greenup County 53; Lawrence County 83, Shelby Valley 50 and Magoffin County 77, Prestonsburg 52.
