PRESTONSBURG – After outlasting East Ridge in an opening round game, Allen Central dropped back-to-back games in the Hi-Tech Signs & Graphix Holiday Classic at Prestonsburg.
Much-improved Magoffin County defeated Allen Central 71-62 and June Buchanan beat the Rebels 59-50.
Magoffin County 71, Allen Central 62: Jaren Lovely poured in a game-high 31 points to lead Magoffin County past Allen Central 71-62 in the Hi-Tech Signs & Graphix Holiday Classic at Prestonsburg on Saturday.
With the win, Magoffin County improved to 6-1.
Allen Central slipped to 3-5 with the loss.
Magoffin County shot 46.8 percent (22-of-47) from the field, finishing 7-for-8 (38.9 percent) beyond the arc.
The Hornets shot 69 percent (20-of-29) from the free throw line.
Accompanying Lovely in double figures for Magoffin County, Brady Whitaker added 11 points.
Magoffin County’s leading scorer for the season, Trenton Russell, chipped in nine points for the Hornets.
Three players reached double figures in the Allen Central scoring column. Cameron Blevins paced the Rebels with a team-high 15 points. Joining Blevins in double figures, Dylan Caudill scored 13 points and Seth Hall added 12 points for the Rebels.
Caudill registered the game’s only double-double, grabbing 11 rebounds to go along with his 13 points.
Narrowly missing double figures, Bailey Wright netted nine points for Allen Central in the setback.
June Buchanan 59, Allen Central 50: Allen Central pushed 14th Region title contender June Buchanan for a win during its final appearance in the Hi-Tech Signs & Graphix Holiday Classic at Prestonsburg on Sunday. But the Crusaders wouldn’t be denied. June Buchanan held on to beat the Rebels 59-50.
Idris Akinyemi led June Buchanan with a team-high 21 points. Joining Akinyemi in double figures, Elijah Branham and Princewill Anosike added 13 points apiece for the Crusaders.
Seth Hall poured in a game-high 31 points for the Rebels.
Hall, who was the only Allen Central player to reach double figures in the scoring column, drained nine three-point field goals.
Barely missing double figures in the scoring column and a nearly logging a double-double, Cameron Blevins netted nine points and claimed 11 rebounds for the Rebels.
Hall was named to the all-tournament team.
