LAS VEGAS – The University of Pikeville men’s bowling team finished 4th out of 38 teams in the Las Vegas Collegiate Shoot-Out with a total pin fall of 12,093 on Tuesday.
It was a tight race near the top of the standings as only one pin separated the Bears from taking third place, which belonged to Webber International (Fla.) with a score of 12,094.
Calumet College of St. Joseph (Ind.) took the team titles with a pin fall of 12,443 and Wichita State (Kan.) was the runner-up with 12,138.
The shoot-out was scored by six games of individual play, followed by four Baker-style team games.
UPIKE didn’t have a bowler earn all-tournament team honors, but was led by Matthew Cleary sitting just outside the top six in ninth place with a score of 1,348 for an average of 224.7 per game.
Derek Perkins finished 22nd (1,295), Matthew Diamond was 28th (1,271) and Zachary Fylling joined them in the top 30, taking 30th place with 1,262 total pins.
The Bears will be in action on Jan. 24 at the Thomas Burris Memorial Classic in Lexington.
