GATLINBURG, Tenn. – South Floyd defeated in-state opponent Casey County 78-72 on Wednesday (Dec. 23) to win the Green Division of the Smoky Mountain Classic boys’ basketball tournament at Gatlinburg-Pittman High School.
The Raiders, under the direction of head coach Justin Holbrook, defeated Central (Wise), Va., 54-38 in the first round of the tournament on Monday, Dec. 21.
Remaining in the win column one day later after knocking off the Virginia foe, South Floyd edged Seymour, Tenn., 57-56 on Tuesday, Dec. 23.

South Floyd 54, Central (Wise), Va. 38: Reigning 58th District champion South Floyd pulled away to defeat Central (Wise), Va., 54-38 in the first round of the Smoky Mountain Classic on Monday, Dec. 21.
South Floyd shot 79.2 percent (19-of-24) from the free throw line in the win.
Andrew Tackett paced South Floyd with 18 points and eight rebounds. Accompanying Tackett in double figures, Poppa Tramell added 14 points and seven rebounds for the Raiders.
Other scorers for South Floyd were Brady Conn (seven points), Hunter Johnson (six points), Blade Slone (four points), Jacob Collins (three points) and Shane Kidd (two points).
South Floyd 57, Seymour, Tenn. 56: In one of the holiday tournament’s most entertaining games, South Floyd edges Seymour, Tenn., 57-56 in the Smoky Mountain Classic on Tuesday, Dec. 22.
The Raiders shot 51.2 percent (22-of-43) from the field. Helping its cause at the free throw line, South Floyd shot 73.9 percent (17-of-23) from the charity stripe in the winning effort.
Andrew Tackett paced South Floyd with a game-high 22 points. Joining Tackett in double figures for the Raiders, Poppa Trammell scored 12 points.
Jacob Collins scored eight points, Brady Conn and Hunter Johnson netted six points apiece and Blade Slone contributed three points for the Raiders in the victory.
Conn led South Floyd on the glass, grabbing a game-high 15 rebounds.
South Floyd 78, Casey County 72: The South Floyd Raiders defeated the Casey County Rebels 78-72 on Wednesday, Dec. 22 to win the Green Division of the Smoky Mountain Classic boys’ basketball tournament.
Four South Floyd players reached double figures in the scoring column. Leading South Floyd to the win, Andrew Tackett scored a game-high 23 points.
Finishing one shot short of Tackett’s game-high scoring total, Jacob Collins contributed 21 points for the Raiders.
Following Tackett and Collins in double figures for South Floyd, Brady Conn scored 14 points Poppa Trammell tossed in 12 points.
The Raiders shot 45.6 percent (26-of-57) from the field. South Floyd, which finished 5-of-12 (41.7 percent) from 3-point range, shot 72.4 percent (21-of-29) from the free throw line.
Additional scorers for the Raiders were Blade Slone (five points), Hunter Johnson (two points) and Blake Johnson (one point0.
