Rebels stumble at Greenup County


Hall scores 14 points in Allen Central’s loss

LLOYD – Allen Central fell to tournament host Greenup County in the first round of the Stultz Pharmacy Holiday Classic on Monday. Finishing strong, homestanding Greenup County doubled up the Rebels 22-11 in the fourth quarter to win 65-45.

Following the loss, Allen Central slipped to 3-7.

Greenup County improved to 6-4 with the win.

The Musketeers canned eight three-pointers en route to the victory.

Greenup County, under the direction of head coach Harold Tackett, a Floyd County native, led at the conclusion of each quarter. The Musketeers outscored the Rebels 14-9 in the first quarter then led 29-20 at halftime.

Remaining out in front after intermission, Allen Central led 43-34 at the end of the third quarter.

Gage Hughes scored a game-high 26 points and Michael Hubbert added 20 points for Greenup County in the win.

Flirting with double figures, Jherrell Jackson finished with nine points for the Greenup County boys’ basketball team.

Seth Hall was the only Allen Central player to reach double figures in the scoring column. Hall paced the Rebels with a team-high 14 points.

Bailey Wright scored eight points and Cameron Blevins netted seven points for the Rebels in the setback.

Teams from five different regions are in the field for the Stultz Pharmacy Holiday Classic.

In other first round games in the Stultz Pharmacy Holiday Classic it was Bishop Brossart 65, Fairview 52; Lewis County 66, Leslie County 45 and Garrard County 70, Nicholas County 52.
