LLOYD – Five Allen Central players reached double figures in the scoring column as the Rebels beat Nicholas County 81-72 in the second round of the Stultz Pharmacy Holiday Classic at Greenup County on Tuesday.

With the win, Allen Central improved to 4-7.

Nicholas County dropped to 2-9 with the loss.

“I thought we played with a lot more enthusiasm tonight,” Allen Central Coach Brad Short said. “Our boys really got after it. Anytime that you can have five guys in double figures you give yourself great opportunity to be successful. Our guys coming off the bench really stepped up and gave us a lift.”

Allen Central outscored Nicholas County 42-35 after halftime to earn the win.

Seth Hall led a balanced Allen Central scoring effort with a team-high 18 points. Hall returned from a injury in early-December.

Joining Hall in double figures for the Rebels, Ethan Smith-Mills scored 15 points, Bret Samons netted 13 points and Cameron Blevins and Cameron Nelson contributed 12 points apiece.

Allen Central finished 19-of-29 from the free throw line.

Aiding the Rebels’ attack, Dylan Caudill scored six points, Bailey Wright three points and Zack Layton two points.

Nicholas County finished only 1-for-10 from 3-point range. The Bluejackets, however, shot 78.1 percent from the free throw line, draining 25-of-32 foul shots.

Elijah Barnett led Nicholas County with a game-high 27 points. Joining Barnett in double figures for the Jackets, Spencer Morris added 20 points.

Trent Letcher flirted with double figures in the Nicholas County scoring column, posting nine points for his team in the loss.

The Allen Central and Nicholas County boys’ basketball teams aren’t scheduled to meet again this season.

In the other second round games played in the Stultz Pharmacy Holiday Classic it was Greenup County 73, Garrard County 48; Fairview 64, Leslie County 63 and Bishop Brossart 49, Lewis County 45.
