PIKEVILLE – In a matchup of former 15th Region champions, Shelby Valley outlasted South Floyd 69-66 in the Pikeville Invitational at T.W. Oliver Memorial Gymnasium on Tuesday.
The loss snapped a South Floyd four-game win streak.
With the loss, South Floyd slipped to 6-5.
Shelby Valley improved to 7-3 with the win.
South Floyd shot 50 percent (25-of-50) from the field. The Raiders were 7-of-17 (41.2 percent) beyond the arc.
South Floyd shot 56.3 percent (9-of-16) from t he free throw line.
Three South Floyd players posted double digits in the scoring column. Andrew Tackett paced the Justin Holbrook-coached Raiders with 23 points.
Brady Conn scored 20 points and Jacob Collins added 10 points for the Raiders in the short effort.
Conn recorded a double-double, pulling down 10 rebounds for South Floyd in the setback.
Blade Slone tossed in seven points, Clinton Trammell netted four points and Blake Johnson added two points for the Raiders.
Reigning 58th District champion South Floyd is competing in its second holiday tournament in two weeks. Prior to Christmas, South Floyd won the Green Division of the Smoky Mountain Classic.
The South Floyd and Shelby Valley boys’ basketball teams aren’t scheduled to meet again this season.
In the other games played in the Pikeville Invitational it was Morgan County 80, Johnson Central 74; Sheldon Clark 79, Russell 73 and Hazard 71, Pikeville 60.
