PIKEVILLE – Despite a Mid-South Conference loss to Cumberlands in December, the University of Pikeville men’s basketball team dropped just one spot to No. 2 in the second edition of the NAIA Coaches’ Top-25 Poll, national office officials announced on Tuesday.
Since taking the loss, the Bears have rattled off four straight wins, including three on the road, to prove to the voters that they belong near the top of the rankings.
The new poll also set up a marquee matchup in the East Ky. Expo Center on Thursday night as No. 2 UPIKE hosted No. 15 Lindsey Wilson. Results from the Pikeville-Lindsey Wilson men’s basketball game were unavailable at press time.
The Mid-South Conference is well represented in the top-15 of the new rankings as Georgetown takes over in the No. 1 spot as the only undefeated team left in the NAIA, followed by No. 2 UPIKE, No. 15 Lindsey Wilson. Campbellsville is the second team listed as receiving votes.
Rounding out the top five is Freed-Hardeman (Tenn.) at No. 3, Columbia (Mo.) at No. 4 and William Penn (Iowa) at No. 5.
