PRESTONSBURG – After competing in back-to-back holiday tournaments, the second of which was on the road in Russellville, Prestonsburg entertained Tolsia, W.Va. in a home game over the weekend. Visiting Tolsia prevented Prestonsburg from returning to the win column. Tolsia dealt Prestonsburg its fifth straight loss, edging the Blackcats 57-56.
With the loss, Prestonsburg dropped to 2-11.
The Blackcats faltered late. Prestonsbrug owned leads at the conclusion of each of the first three quarters. But Tolsia wouldn’t be denied. The Rebels thrived late, outscoring the Blackcats 24-9 in the fourth quarter to claim the win.
Multiple players stepped up for Tolsia in the win. Cody Jude and Tyler Stroud were among the leaders for the Rebels in the victory.
Wesley Hager paced Prestonsburg with 16 points. Dalton Frasure scored 14 points and Scott Stapleton tossed in 10 points as three Blackcats reached double figures in the scoring column.
Narrowly missing double figures, Drake Nunnery netted nine points for the Blackcats.
Prestonsburg shot 60 percent (20-of-33) from the field, finishing 7-of-12 (58 percent) beyond the arc.
Additional scorers for Prestonsburg in the loss were Chandler Nelson (three points), Jordan Ray (three points) and Bailey Slone (one point).
The Prestonsburg and Tolsia boys’ basketball teams aren’t scheduled to meet again this season.
