Match earns second MSC women’s basketball weekly award

University of Pikeville sophomore Aundea Matchen has claimed her second Mid-South Conference Women’s Basketball Player of the Week award.


PIKEVILLE – Aundrea Matchen is the Mid-South Conference Women’s Basketball Player of the Week after leading the University of Pikeville to back-to-back NAIA top-25 wins, league officials announced on Monday.

This is the second player of the week honor of the season and career for Matchen who was previously named the week’s best on Nov. 30.

In No. 20 UPIKE’s 64-58 win over No. 25 Lindsey Wilson on Thursday, the sophomore from Louisville, poured in 23 points, six rebounds, two assists and two steals. Two days later, in the 73-70 win over No. 18 Cumberland (Tenn.), Matchen added a double-double of 22 points and 10 boards.

For the week, she averaged 22.5 points, eight rebounds, 1.5 steals and 0.5 assists while shooting 43.9 percent from the field and 33.3 percent from behind the arc.

Matchen currently ranks second in the MSC, and 10th nationally, in scoring at 17.8 points per game.
