PIKEVILLE – Betsy Layne pulled away to beat 58th District/Floyd County Conference rival South Floyd 65-52 in the 15th Region All “A” Classic at the East Kentucky Expo Center on Wednesday.
With the win, Betsy Layne evened its overall record top 7-7.
South Floyd slipped to 7-6 with the loss.
Betsy Layne shot 57.1 percent (24-of-42) from the field. The Ladycats finished 3-of-7 (42.9 percent) from 3-point range.
Betsy Layne shot 58.3 percent (14-of-24) from the free throw line.
Emily Kidd paced Betsy Layne with a double-double. Kidd scored 21 points and grabbed 11 rebounds for the Ladycats in the win.
Accompanying Kidd in double figures, Megan Frazier scored 15 points and Alex Sisco contributed 10 pints for the Ladycats.
Frazier narrowly missed a double-double, pulling down nine rebounds to go along with her 15 points.
Destiny Compton and Katie Tackett contributed eight points apiece for Betsy Layne, which is a former 15th Region All “A” Classic champion.
Other scorers for Betsy Layne in the win were Paige Stumbo (two points) and Kaitlin Kidd (one point).
Owning an advantage inside, Betsy Layne outrebounded South Floyd 35-24.
South Floyd shot only 35.4 percent (23-of-65) from the field. The Lady Raiders finished 2-of-15 (13.3 percent) from 3-point range.
South Floyd shot 40 percent (4-of-10) from the free throw line.
Katie Moore led South Floyd with 22 points and eight rebounds. Leighann Hall scored 14 points and Taylor Berger added 10- points for the Lady Raiders in the setback.
Additional scorers for South Floyd in the loss were Brooke Potter (four points), Jesse Tackett (two points) and Cheyenne Light (one point).
Betsy Layne is scheduled to host South Floyd for a 58th District/Floyd County Conference girls’ basketball game on Friday. Tip-off for the Betsy Layne-South Floyd girls’ basketball game is set for 6 p.m. at the Dome.
