BUCKLEYS CREEK – The Allen Central Lady Rebels remained in the loss column on the road at Pike County Central late last week. Pike County Central pulled away to beat the Lady Rebels 62-34 on Friday night.
With the loss, Allen Central dropped to 1-9.
Pike County Central improved to 6-8 with the win.
Under the guidance of head coach Derek Newsome, a Floyd County native, Pike County Central won despite shooting only 31.4 percent (27-of-36) from the field. The Lady Hawks finished 4-of-15 (26.7 percent) from 3-point range.
Pike County Central shot 30.8 percent (4-of-13) from the free throw line.
Madison Mullins led Pike County Central with a game-high 25 points and 13 points.
One of the 15th Region’s top players, Mullins was the only Lady Hawk to reach double figures in the scoring column.
Finishing one shot short of reaching double figures, Kelsey Tackett scored eight points for the Lady Hawks.
Haley Boyd scored six points, while Bailey Birchfield and Amy Tibbs chipped in five points apiece for Pike County Central in the winning effort.
The Lady Hawks moved ahead early and never faltered en route to the win.
Alexandria Samons paced Allen Central with a team-high 15 points. Samons, who also pulled down seven rebounds, was the only Lady Rebel to reach double figures in the scoring column.
Narrowly missing double figures, Hannah Combs posted nine points for the Lady Rebels.
Other scorers for Allen Central in the loss were Kacie Poston (six points), Kelsey Parsons (three points) and Emily Johnson (one point).
Poston pulled down a game-high eight rebounds for the Lady Rebels in the lopsided loss.
The Allen Central and Pike County Central girls’ basketball teams aren’t scheduled to meet again this season.
