PRESTONSBURG – Host Prestonsburg notched a 58th District win on Wednesday (Jan. 13), defeating visiting Allen Central 71-63 in a boys’ basketball game at the Fieldhouse.
With the win, Prestonsburg improved to 3-12 overall and 1-1 the 58th District.
Allen Central dropped to 6-9 overall and 2-1 in the district with the loss.
Dalton Frasure paced Prestonsburg with 17 points. Accompanying Frasure in double figures for the Blackcats, Bailey Slone scored 16 points and Scott Stapleton contributed 11 points.
Flirting with double figures, Wesley Hager, a first-year player who transferred from Sheldon Clark in 2015, added nine points for the Blackcats.
Drake Nunnery netted eight points, while Chandler Nelson and Austin Endicott chipped in five points apiece for Prestonsburg in the winning effort.
Allen Central edged Prestonsburg 16-15 in the first quarter. But the Blackcats owned a lead at the conclusion of each quarter after the first frame. Prestonsburg led 34-31 at halftime and 50-48 at the conclusion of the third quarter.
Finishing strong, Prestonsburg outscored Allen Central 21-15 in the final period.
Seth Hall led Allen Central with a game-high 24 points. Cameron Blevins scored 18 points and Ethan Smith-Mills added 10 points as three Rebels reached double figures in the scoring column.
Rounding out the Allen Central scoring, Dylan Caudill and Cameron Nelson added six points and five points, respectively.
Nelson led Allen Central on the glass, grabbing a game-high 12 rebounds for the Rebels.
Prestonsburg is scheduled to visit Allen Central for another 58th District game on Jan. 26.
