BETSY LAYNE – Playing on the road didn’t phase South Floyd as the Raiders pulled away to beat host Betsy Layne 78-60 in a 58th District boys’ basketball game at the Dome on Friday night.
With the win, South Floyd improved to 7-8 overall and 2-1 in the 58th District.
Betsy Layne dropped to 6-9 overall and 0-2 in the district.
Thriving offensively, South Floyd shot 60 percent (33-of-55) from the field. The Raiders finished 6-of-16 (37.5 percent) from 3-point range.
South Floyd shot 40 percent (6-of-15) from the free throw line.
Four South Floyd players reached double figures in the scoring column. Leading South Floyd to the convincing victory, Andrew Tackett scored a game-high 22 points.
Joining Tackett in double figures for the Raiders, Poppa Trammell scored 15 points, Brady Conn contributed 13 points and Jacob Collins netted 13 points.
Flirting with double figures for the Raiders, Brady Ousley scored nine points.
Collins led defending 58th District champion South Floyd inside, securing nine rebounds.
Betsy Layne shot 33.3 percent (22-of-66) from the field. Faring better beyond the arc, Betsy Layne finished 10-of-27 from 3-point range.
The Bobcats shot 85.7 percent (6-of-7) from the free throw line.
Betsy Layne featured three scorers in double figures. Zach Hamilton paced Betsy Layne with 12 points. Accompanying Hamilton in double figures, Jakob Ariaz scored 11 points and Nathan Hall added 10 points for the Bobcats.
Aiding the Betsy Layne attack,. Grant Osborn and Kyle Watkins added eight points apiece.
Betsy Layne committed 13 turnovers in the district loss.
