Ladycats fall to Pikeville

PIKEVILLE – The Betsy Layne Ladycats slipped back into the loss column on the road at Pikeville earlier in the week. Homestanding Pikeville pulled away to beat Betsy Layne 45-33 on Monday night.

Pikeville improved to 8-5 with the win.

With the loss, Betsy Layne dropped to 8-9.

Pikeville shot 36 percent (18-of-50) from the field, winning despite hitting only 1-of-10 3-point field goal attempts.

The Lady Panthers shot 61.5 percent (8-of-13) from the free throw line.

Dominating inside, Pikeville outrebounded the Ladycats 36-21.

Alexxa Gearheart paced Pikeville with a game-high 13 points and a game-best 12 rebounds. Gearheart led a duo of Pikeville players in double figures as Leslie Stewart added 10 points.

Stewart delivered a double-double of her own, adding 10 rebounds.

Other scorers for Pikeville in the victory were Kayce Tackett (six points), Rachel Blackburn (five points), Savanna Nunemaker (five points), Alivia Gearheart (four points) and Sara Morton (two points).

Betsy Layne shot 32.3 percent (10-of-31) from the field. The Ladycats finished 3-for-7 (42.9 percent) from 3-point range.

Betsy Layne shot 71.4 percent (10-of-14) from the free throw line.

Megan Frazier was the only Betsy Layne player to reach double figures in the scoring column. Frazier paced the Ladycats with 13 points, sharing game-high scoring honors with Pikeville’s Alexxa Gearheart.

Following Frazier in the Betsy Layne scoring column, Destiny Compton and Katie Tackett contributed six points apiece.

Additional scorers for the Ladycats were Emily Kidd (three points), Kaitlin Kidd (three points) and Alex Sisco (two points).

The Ladycats committed 18 turnovers in the loss.
