MOREHEAD – The Tug Valley Bass Anglers fishing club held its fifth tournament of the 2015 season Sunday on Cave Run Lake. In all, 25 anglers competed in the event. Veteran anglers Steve Cullop and Brandon Staten tied to win the bass fishing tournament.
Cave Run Lake was at summer pool with lightly stained to stained water on the entire lake. The water temperature for the tournament was around 80-85 degrees.
Weather for the tournament was solid with mostly sunny skies, moderate winds and an air temperature 85-90 degrees.
Almost every angler weighed in fish. The fish were caught in 10 to 15 feet of water on the main lake as well as in the pockets and creeks.
The main pattern for the tournament was to fish soft plastic baits, worms or crawdad imitations around wood. Finesse fishing with small worms accounted for most of the fish weighed in. Total fish weighed in was 81.48 lbs.
The top finishers were as follows: 1st — Steve Cullop (5 fish), 6.26 lbs.; 1st — Brandon Staten (5 fish), 6.26 lbs.; 3rd — Michael Salyer (5 fish), 6.02 lbs.; 4th — Shawn Smith (5 fish), 5.58 lbs.; 5th — Rod Varney (5 fish), 5.30 lbs.; 6th — Keith Pacific (5 fish), 5.25 lbs.; 7th — Tommy Hopkins (5 fish), 4.37 lbs.; 8th — Johnny Webb (5 fish), 4.15 lbs.; 9th — Mitch Salmons (5 fish), 3.85 lbs.; 10th —Lynn Fields (5 fish), 3.64 lbs.
