FRANKFORT – Shelby Valley pulled away to beat Danville 52-42 in the first round of the Touchstone Energy All “A” State Tournament on Wednesday.
With the win, Shelby Valley improved to 17-2 and advanced in the small-school statewide tournament.
Danville dropped to 10-12 and was eliminated from the event.
Shelby Valley shot 51.4 percent (19-of-37) from the field. The Lady Kats finished 4-of-6 (66.7 percent) from 3-point range.
Shelby Valley shot 55.6 percent (10-of-18) from the free throw line.
Three Shelby Valley players reached double figures in the scoring column.
Lakyn Mullins paced Shelby Valley with 20 points and seven rebounds. Accompanying Mullins in double figures, Summer Rose scored 13 points and Kayla Newsom netted 11 points for the Lady Kats.
Kyleigh Tackett and Cassidi Wright rounded out the Shelby Valley scoring with five points and three points, respectively.
Tackett pulled down nine rebounds for Shelby Valley in the victory.
In other opening round games in the All “A” Classic it was Murray 64, Green County 48; Newport Central Catholic Central 59, Livingston Central 27; Walton-Verona 60, Presentation 51; Harlan 55, Bracken County 30; Glasgow 57, Breathitt County 25; Frankfort 72, Menifee County 50 and Owensboro Catholic 68, Kentucky Country Day 31.
