HI HAT – Host South Floyd held on to beat Betsy Layne 57-50 in a 58th District boys’ basketball game at Raider Arena on Friday night.
With the win, South Floyd improved to 9-9 overall and 3-1 in the 58th District.
Betsy Layne dropped to 7-12 overall and 1-3 in the district with the loss.
South Floyd shot 43.8 percent (21-of-48) from the field. The Raiders finished 3-of-12 (25 percent) from 3-point range.
South Floyd shot 66.7 percent (12-of-18) from the free throw line.
Andrew Tackett paced South Floyd with a game-high 29 points. One of the 15th Region’s top boys’ basketball players, Tackett was the only Raider to reach double figures in the scoring column.
Narrowly missing double figures and flirting with a double-double, Brady Conn scored nine points and grabbed nine rebounds for the Raiders.
Jacob Collins scored seven points and Poppa Trammell tossed in six points for the Raiders in the district win.
Rounding out the South Floyd individual scoring, Brady Ousley and Blade Slone chipped in three points apiece.
Betsy Layne shot only 31.7 percent (19-of-60) from the field. The Bobcats finished 5-of-18 (27.8 percent) from 3-point range.

Zach Hamilton paced Betsy Layne with a double-double, scoring 17 points and grabbing 11 rebounds.
Accompanying Hamilton in double figures, Jakob Ariaz scored 11 points for the Bobcats.
Grant Osborn and Kyle Watkins scored eight points apiece for the Bobcats in the loss.
Rounding out the Betsy Layne scoring, Morris Adkins and Nathan Hall added three points apiece.
Betsy Layne managed to outrebound South Floyd 34-24.
The Bobcats committed 12 turnovers in the setback.
Both Betsy Layne and South Floyd will compete in the 58th District Boys’ Basketball Tournament later in the month.
