WEST LIBERTY – Visiting South Floyd faced an early deficit and failed to battle back to beat Morgan County on the road over the weekend. Morgan County defeated the Lady Raiders 55-47 in a girls’ high school basketball game on Saturday.
The South Floyd and Morgan County girls’ basketball teams hail from neighboring regions.
South Floyd slipped to 7-9 with the loss.
With the win, Morgan County improved to 10-11.
Morgan County shot 50 percent (17-of-34) from the field. The Lady Cougars finished 4-of-7 from 3-point range, shooting 57.1 percent beyond the arc.
Morgan County shot 56.7 percent (17-of-30) from the free throw line.
Abby Ross paced Morgan County with a double-double. Ross led the Lady Cougars with a game-high 25 points and 10 rebounds.
Accompanying Ross in double figures, Amber Cole scored 18 points for the Lady Cougars.
South Floyd shot 25.4 percent (16-of-63) from the field. The Lady Raiders finished 5-of-23 (21.7 percent) from 3-point range.
South Floyd shot 73.3 percent (11-of-15) from the free throw line.
Cheyenne Light led the Lady Raiders with a team-high 18 points. Joining Light in double figures, Leighann Hall scored 12 points for the Lady Raiders.
Taylor Berger added five points and a game-high 11 rebounds for South Floyd in the loss.
Other scorers for the Lady Raiders in the setback were Katie Moore (four points), Brooke Stumbo (four points), Brooke Potter (three points) and Jesse Tackett (two points).
