PRESTONSBURG – Host Prestonsburg defeated familiar Floyd County rival Allen Central 79-65 in a 58th District girls’ basketball game at the Fieldhouse on Saturday.
Prestonsburg won for the second time in three outings. The Lady Blackcats returned to the win column following a 14-point loss to Perry County Central one night earlier.
Prestonsburg, under the direction of head coach Brandon Gearheart, owned multiple leads before settling for the 14-point win.
Tiffany Meadows paced Prestonsburg with a game-high 35 points. Following Meadows in the Lady Blackcat scoring column, Jana Jarvis scored 29 points.
The Lady Blackcats shot 50 percent (15-of-30) from the free throw line.
Defensively, Prestonsburg limited Allen Central on numerous offensive possessions.
Other scorers for the Lady Blackcats in the win were Allison Hall (six points), Jenna Layne (five points), Kaitlyn Newsome (two points), Maddy Raney (one point) and Newsom (one point).
Allen Central featured three scorers in double figures. Kelsey Parsons paced the Lady Rebels with a team-high 22 points. Joining Parsons in double figures, Kacie Poston scored 19 points and Savannah Watkins contributed 11 points for the Rebels.
Hannah Combs scored eight points, Emily Johnson chipped in three points and Alexandria Samons added two points for Allen Central in the setback.
Leading Allen Central inside, Johnson grabbed a game-high 11 rebounds.
Both Prestonsburg and Allen Central will compete in the 58th District Girls’ Basketball Tournament later in the month.
