Bobcats dismantle visiting Riverside Christian, 85-17

BETSY LAYNE – Betsy Layne returned to the win column in a big way earlier in the week, rolling past visiting Riverside Christian 85-17 in a boys’ high school basketball game at the Dome on Monday night.

With the win, Betsy Layne improved to 8-13.

Riverside Christian dropped to 1-20 with the loss.

Betsy Layne shot 49.3 percent (36-of-73) from the field. Faring well beyond the arc,. Betsy Layne finished 9-of-21 (42.9 percent) from 3-point range.

The Bobcats struggled at the foul line, shooting only 28.6 percent (4-of-14) from the free throw stripe.

Controlling the glass, Betsy Layne outrebounded Riverside Christian 46-23.

Equalling Riverside Christian offensively, Kyle Watkins led Betsy Layne with a game-high 17 points.

Accompanying Watkins in double figures, Morris Adkins scored 16 points and Byron Hammond added 10 points for the Bobcats.

Other scorers for Betsy Layne in the win were Jakob Ariaz (seven points), Lance Hall (six points), Nathaniel Mims (six points), Dustin Tackett (six points), Grant Osborn (four points), Quintin Adkins (two points), Kyle Evans (two points) and Milton Mahan (two points).

Betsy Layne posted 21 steals/deflections in the winning effort. The Bobcats had 20 assists opposed to 12 turnovers.

Riverside Christian finished 6-of-23 (26.1 percent) from the field. The Rams shot 30 percent (3-of-10) from 3-point range.

Riverside Christian went 2-of-8 (25 percent) from the free throw line.

Tyler Hudson paced Riverside Christian with five points. Following Hudson in the Riverside Christian scoring column, Austin Baker, Carlin Champ, Ephraim Champ and Randy Champ chipped in three points apiece for the Rams.
