Rebels drop home game to Magoffin County

EASTERN – Allen Central suffered its straight loss earlier in the week. Visiting Magoffin County distanced itself from Allen Central and eventually defeated the Rebels 63-46 at J.E. Campbell Arena in a non-district boys’ high school basketball game on Monday night.

With the win, Magoffin County improved to 14-5.

Allen Central slipped to 9-11 with the loss.

Magoffin County shot 19-of-41 (46.3 percent) from the field. The Hornets finished 8-of-19 (42.1 percent) from 3-point range.

Magoffin County, which remains one of the 15th Region’s top-five teams, shot 81 percent (17-of-21) from the free throw line.

Trenton Russell led Magoffin County with 17 points and eight rebounds. Jaren Lovely tossed in 15 points and Ryan Mullins contributed 11 points as three Hornets reached double figures in the scoring column.

Flirting with double figures, Brady Whitaker scored nine points on three three-pointers for Magoffin County in the victory.

Seth Hall paced Allen Central with 19 points. Accompanying Hall in double figures for the Rebels, Brett Samons scored 11 points.

Other scorers for the Rebels in the loss were Cameron Blevins (eight points), Dylan Caudill (four points), Cameron Nelson (four points).
