PIKEVILLE – Featuring three games against teams ranked in the postseason NAIA Coaches’ Top-25 Poll, University of Pikeville head coach Allan Holland Jr., released the Bears’ 2016 schedule on Thursday.
The season opens under the lights at 6:30 p.m. ET on Thursday, Aug. 25 at Bluefield (Va.) in a Mid-South Conference East Division tilt. The Thursday night trend continues the next week with UPIKE’s home opener at 7 p.m. against Campbellsville on Sept 1 at the Hambley Athletic Complex.
Campbellsville, which finished 11th in the final rankings of the season, is one of the three ranked opponents. The others are No. 10 Reinhradt (Ga.), which comes to Pikeville on Sept. 24, and a road trip to No. 25 Georgetown in the regular-season finale on Nov. 12.
The newest addition to the schedule is Cincinnati Christian, at home on Oct. 15, which is the latest institution to join the Mid-South Conference for football. 2016 will be the school’s first year of varsity football as it joins the east division.
UPIKE will play six games at home coming off a season where they finished with a winning record of 3-2 in the MSC East Division and 4-7 overall. The Bears have won their last five season openers and will once again have extra motivation with a divisional contest right off the bat.
