58th District Basketball: Betsy Layne sweeps Prestonsburg

PRESTONSBURG – Visiting Betsy Layne swept Prestonsburg in a 58th District basketball doubleheader at the Prestonsburg Fieldhouse on Wednesday, Feb. 3.

In a 58th District boys’ basketball game, Betsy Layne pulled away to beat Prestonsburg 63-54.

Betsy Layne defeated Prestonsburg 50-32 in a 58th District girls’ basketball game.

Boys – Betsy Layne 63, Prestonsburg 54: Betsy Layne shot 51,1 percent (23-of-45) from the field en route to defeating Prestonsburg 63-54 in a 58th District boys’ basketball game at the Prestonsburg Fieldhouse on Wednesday, Feb. 3.

The Bobcats finished 3-of-10 (30 percent) from 3-point range.

Betsy Layne shot 63.6 percent (14-of-22) from the free throw line.

Zach Hamilton led a balanced Betsy Layne scoring effort with 17 points.

Following Hamilton in double figures for the Bobcats and posting a double-double, Jakob Ariaz delivered 15 points and 10 rebounds.

Accompanying Hamilton and Ariaz in double figures, Dustin Tackett and Kyle Watkins contributed 10 points apiece.

Rounding out the Betsy Layne individual scoring, Grant Osborn and Morris Adkins added six points and five points, respectively.

Girls – Betsy Layne 50, Prestonsburg 32: Emily Kidd scored a game-high 22 points and Megan Frazier contributed 15 points as Betsy Layne beat Prestonsburg 50-32 in a 58th District girls’ basketball game at the Prestonsburg Fieldhouse on Wednesday, Feb. 3.

Betsy Layne shot 43.2 percent (19-of-44) from the field. The Ladycats finished 2-of-6 from 3-point range and went 10-for-21 at the foul line.

Other scorers for Betsy Layne in the win were Katie Tackett (five points), Jordan Adkins (three points), Destiny Compton (three points) and Alex Sisco (two points).
