EASTERN – Visiting Betsy Layne distanced itself early and dominated in each quarter on the road late last week, pulling away to beat longtime rival Allen Central 71-32 in a 58th District girls’ basketball game at J.E. Campbell Arena on Friday night.
The Ladycats owned a lead at the conclusion of each quarter in the district matchup.
Betsy Layne shot 42.7 percent (32-of-75) from the field but went only 1-of-11 beyond the arc.
Betsy Layne finished 6-of-16 from the free throw line.
Megan Frazier, one of the top girls’ basketball players in the 15th Region, led Betsy Layne with a game-high 20 points. Joining Frazier in double figures, Emily Kidd scored 18 points for the Ladycats.
Barely missing double figures, Destiny Compton scored nine points for Betsy Layne in the convincing victory.
Jordan Adkins scored seven points and Katie Tackett tossed in five points for the Ladycats.
Rounding out the Betsy Layne scoring, Summer Johnson, Alex Sisco and Paige Stumbo contributed four points apiece.
The Lady Rebels were limited throughout the contest.
Kelsey Parsons paced Allen Central with 10 points. Parsons was the only Lady Rebel to reach double figures in the scoring column.
Narrowly missing double figures, Hannah Combs and Kacie Poston scored nine points apiece for Allen Central in the district loss.
Alexandria Samons and Kayci Stumbo chipped in two points apiece as the Lady Rebels suffered the district setback.
Betsy Layne completed a regular-season sweep. When the two 58th District girls’ basketball foes met in an early-season game on Dec. 4, Betsy Layne prevailed 55-28.
