PRESTONSBURG – The South Floyd Raiders pulled out a hard-fought 58th District win over the weekend. South Floyd edged host Prestonsburg 54-52 in a 58th District boys’ basketball game on Saturday night.
With the win, South Floyd improved to 13-10 overall and 5-1 in the 58th District.
Prestonsburg dropped to 6-18 overall and 1-4 in the district.
The Raiders edged Prestonsburg 15-13 in the final quarter to claim the win.
South Floyd shot 46.9 percent (23-of-49) from the field. The Raiders went only 2-of-12 from 3-point range.
South Floyd finished 5-of-12 from 3-point range.
Poppa Trammell paced South Floyd, scoring 20 points for the second straight outing.
Directly behind Trammell in the South Floyd scoring column, Jacob Collins posted 18 points.
Prestonsburg started strong, outscoring South Floyd 15-7 in the first quarter,. The Blackcats led 30-27 at halftime but failed to carry their momentum over into the second half. South Floyd outscored Prestonsburg 16-9 in the third quarter to tie the game 39-39.
Roger Tackett (six points), Brady Conn (five points) and Andrew Tackett (five points) provided additional scoring for the Raiders.
The Blackcats shot 48 percent (18-of-37) from the field. Prestonsburg finished 5-of-16 (31 percent) beyond the arc.
The Blackcats shot 52 percent (11-of-21) from the free throw line.
Dalton Frasure led Prestonsburg with a game-high 25 points. Joining Frasure in double figures, Scott Stapleton scored 12 points for the Blackcats.
Additional scorers for Prestonsburg were Bailey Slone (eight points), Wesley Hager (four points) and Drake Nunnery (three points).
South Floyd pulled off a regular-season sweep after defeating Prestonsburg 79-72 in an early-season district clash on Dec. 15.
In a 58th District girls’ basketball game, South Floyd pulled away to beat Prestonsburg 63-20.
