BETSY LAYNE – Host Betsy Layne edged Pike County Central 73-71 in a 15th Region girls’ basketball matchup at the Dome on Monday night.
The Ladycats, under the direction of head coach Randy Coleman, scored 70-plus points for the second time in as many outings.
Betsy Layne,the frontrunner in the 58th District, improved to 12-10 with the win.
With the loss, Pike County Central dropped to 11-15.
Betsy Layne shot 47.3 percent (26-of-55) from the field. The Ladycats went 5-for-12 (41.7 percent) from 3-point range.
Betsy Layne shot 56.3 percent (18-of-32) from the free throw line.
Megan Frazier paced Betsy Layne with 24 points. Accompanying Frazier in double figures for the Ladycats, Destiny Compton scored 15 points and Emily Kidd chipped in 14 points.
Betsy Layne, which claimed its fourth straight win, featured eight different scorers. Kaitlin Kidd (five points), Alex Sisco (five points), Katie Tackett (five points), Jordan Adkins (three points) and Summer Johnson (two points) delivered additional scoring for the Ladycats.
Betsy Layne overcame 20 turnovers to claim the win.
Pike County Central suffered its fourth straight loss.
Border rivals Betsy Layne and Pike County Central will compete in separate district tournaments later in the month.
