BETSY LAYNE – Betsy Layne dropped a home game to visiting 15th Region rival late last week. Shelby Valley managed to outlast Betsy Layne 39-32 in a low-scoring game at the Dome on Friday night.

Betsy Layne dropped to 13-11 with the loss.

With the win, Shelby Valley improved to 21-3.

Shelby Valley shot 36.6 percent (15-of-41) from the field. The Lady Kats went 5-for-14 (35.7 percent) from 3-point range.

Shelby Valley shot 50 percent (4-of-8) from the free throw line.

Kayla Newsom paced Shelby Valley with 12 points. Joining Newsom in double figures for the Lady Kats. Summer Rose and Cassidi Wright scored 11 points apiece.

Kyleigh Tackett rounded out the Shelby Valley individual scoring, posting five points. Tackett led Shelby Valley inside, claiming eight rebounds.

Shelby Valley is less than two years removed from winning its last overall 15th Region title. The Lady Kats captured a 15th Region All “A” Classic championship earlier in the year.

Betsy Layne shot 35.7 percent (10-of-28) from the field. The Ladycats finished 0-for-5 from 3-point range.

Betsy Layne shot 60 percent (12-of-20) from the free throw line.

Emily Kidd led Betsy Layne with 13 points and eight rebounds. Kidd was the only Ladycat to reach double figures in the scoring column.

Narrowly missing double figures, Megan Frazier scored nine points for the Ladycats. Other scorers for Betsy Layne were Destiny Compton (seven points), Katie Tackett (two points) and Kaitlin Kidd (one point).

The Ladycats thrived around the goal, outrebounding Shelby Valley 28-14.

Betsy Layne committed 20 turnovers in the loss.
