EASTERN – The Allen Central Rebels defeated the Betsy Layne Bobcats 56-560 in a 58th District boys’ basketball game at J.E. Campbell Arena on Friday night.
Seth Hall paced Allen Central with a game-high 31 points. Hall, who was the only Rebel to reach double figures in the scoring column, finished 7-of-10 (70 percent) from the free throw line.
Bret Samons scored seven points, Cameron Blevins netted six points and Sam Conley chipped in four points for the Rebels in the district win.
Rounding out the Allen Central individual scoring, Dylan Caudill, Cameron Nelson, Ethan Smith-Mills and Bailey Wright added two points apiece.
Caudill led Allen Central inside, securing a game-high 11 rebounds.
Failing to convert at the charity stripe on several occasions, Betsy Layne shot only 40.7 percent (11-of-27) from the free throw line.
Zach Hamilton paced Betsy Layne with 18 points. Joining Hamilton in double figures, Kyle Watkins scored 14 points for the Bobcats.
Morris Adkins (seven points), Jakob Ariaz (four points), Byron Hammond (four points) and Grant Osborn (three points) provided additional scoring for Betsy Layne in the win.
The Rebels swept their regular-season with the Bobcats. Allen Central beat 61-58 in overtime in an early-season meeting on Dec. 4.
Allen Central is looking to advance to the 15th Region Boys’ Basketball Tournament for a second straight year. The Rebels finished runner-up to South Floyd in the 58th District in 2015.
The Allen Central and Betsy Layne boys’ basketball teams met as part of a 58th District doubleheader. In a 58th District girls’ basketball game, Betsy Layne rolled past Allen Central 71-32.
